What are the lessons learned from the just ended local elections - TopicsExpress

What are the lessons learned from the just ended local elections that saw PF win almost all of them? Where do we go from here ? First of all, Scorpion team congratulates PF for scooping Mangango Constituency and other smaller by elections. PF as a party deserves the accolades and its the Zambian way to praise and acknowledge their success. This is what we can deduce from the elections 1) The seating Government always has the machinery to employ , guaranteeing them success. It is always difficult to go against government machinery. PF did not win because they are popular, they won because the Opposition is weak. Opposition leaders are too proud to form a coalition. If UPND can lose in Mangango, its inevitable for them to lose in Luapula, Northern, Muchinga and other places necessary to scoop a Presidential election 2) MMD is formally NOT the biggest Opposition. They have been overtaken by UPND. The torch is now in HHs hands more than it is in Nevers Mumbas. Congratulations UPND. MMD was being rivalled in numbers even by UNIP in these elections. In one ward, UNIP had higher numbers. The once mighty MMD needs to regroup otherwise its breathing its last spats of air. 3) PF should not take their victory as a foretaste of how Presidential elections will turn out. Before PF won Presidential elections, MMD was winning most of the by elections. 4) The Opposition in Zambia does not know how to campaign. They feel being angry all the time is what will win them elections. They have forgotten that connecting with people even before elections are near is whats important. Congratulate government when they build hospitals, or build roads. Dont always show bitterness. Go into the rural areas and be their friends HH, since he now leads the biggest Opposition party, should talk about a future Zambia, a prosperous and united country. Let him talk about hope of a new Zambia. Let him focus on selling the Nation his vision. If the President is sick or rumored to be sick, let us the media talk, he shouldnt utter a word. Let him discuss issues and attack PF, not its leaders. If you ask a regular person who uttered the words Guy Scott is a stupid white man, they will tell you HH said it, but if you ask them what HHs manifesto is, no one will tell you. HH should not be known for the negative things he says, but for the positive things. Sata told us what he would do within 90 days. He sold us that promise and he won our hearts. What promise is HH giving the people? Why does UPND want to come into power? What are they doing to get rid of the regional party or tribal party stigma? If UPND does not address the above, PF will smoothly take us into 2016. 5) NAREP, you have a brilliant leader who does not have charisma. NAREP is still known as an elitist party. NAREP is an issue based party. I love NAREP, but it does not seem ready to fold its sleeves , jump into the mud and fight. Chipimo, you are the hope to a lot of us, get more aggressive. 6) Nevers Mumba, if you lose in 2016, please come back to the pulpit and sort out the spiritual mess in the country.. Your people, pentecostal pastors are busy molesting young girls and preaching strange things in their clubs that they call churches. Its time to get ready for twists and turns. Congratulations people of Zambia for a largely peaceful elections. Zambians are the best. The ZS AWARD is yours Sidique Abdullah Gondwe Geloo
