What did you think of the election night results last night? For Victoria, Lisa Helps will be replacing Mayor Fortin. Normally id be happy to see more female representation, but in my experience on animal issues, Helps has left some concerns. While Fortin wasnt vocal, we had positive conversations with him, and was generally supportive. Helps we suspect is going to be mindful of her community in Saanich, including many horse folks, and i imagine it will be some work to get her to agree that the carriages ought to be banned. Councillor Ben Isitt has been re-elected, and has been our best ally in this area. Anyone have any experience with the rest of the council? Councillor Thornton-Joe is back as well, and has been receptive, but very slow moving. In Oak Bay, our hopes of seeing Cairine Green elected were squashed with the return of Mayor Jensen, who has been very vocal against deer, and will likely continue to push for their demise. Theres a lot of change in the rest of council, so it will be interesting to see how that shakes out. Would have been nice to see Joan Russow on council as well, shes a real gem. In Langford, there was zero change of council, so it looks like Victoria Citizens Against Rodeo Events - VCARE will still have their work cut out for them! What are your thoughts on the election?
