What do expect from God, and what do you think God intends for - TopicsExpress

What do expect from God, and what do you think God intends for faith in Christ to accomplish in your life? Have you concluded that God really doesn’t do much but get you into heaven when you die? A few years ago, God convicted me that I had been deceived into expecting too little of Him. I had seen so many supposed believers who seemed just as un-Godly and un-changed as lost people and so many instances of people being inconsistent in their theology of how God did and did not intervene in life that I lowered my expectations of Him. Well, something occurred to me the other day. Think about Jesus’ earthly ministry and what He did and did not do. Yes, there were times when He changed circumstances, but most of the time, He changed people, and the only people He was able to change were the ones who surrendered to His touch in faith. Furthermore, His touch of their lives, sickness, etc., was with the view to bring them to spiritual transformation and life. However, it has become current in Christian circles to ask God to change our circumstances, while allowing us to be just as hard, un-changed, and inconsistent as before. In other words, we say, “Lord change my situation or make so-and-so treat me better” instead of praying, “Lord change me so that I am more like you and more able to serve you in the middle of my circumstances.” God’s primary goal is not to make our lives easier but to mold us into the image of Jesus. God may change your circumstances, but will you let Him change your heart? Take a look at James 1:2-8.
