What does it mean to be human? Does it mean to appreciate our humanity, or to suppress it, ignore it? To suppress it ignores the pain of human failing, but perhaps also the joy of overcoming human failing. To embrace humanity might mean to accept human failing as the challenge of being alive, to fall then get back up again, better not for having fallen, but for having gotten up. Isnt that why we cheer for the underdog, hold out hope for the comeback, because of our hope for an indefatigable human spirit, that with the help of God, can overcome all things, and make us feel our life is not merely enduring lifes tortures, but is worthwhile? Do we not feel best about ourselves not when we succeed at things that are easy, but at things that are hard? So why bemoan lifes hardships, or even accept them? Why not take up the challenge of attempting to solve them, and on those occasions we are able to, enjoy more fully what it means to feel truly human?
