What excites me most about this Michael Brown case is that the people are coming out to protest as they are. From sagging shorts, locs, dashikis, and three-pieces, to broken English and PhDs. No more acceptable uniforms in exchange for a shred of respect. Fewer people give a shit about the name-calling, labels, assumptions, or “aggressive/angry” conclusions. We’re cringing less and we actually expect the media to find the least articulate POC to express their concerns. It’s okay. They’re our aunties. We love them too. We choose them over the queen and her English. We understand this must be done, because the truth is too powerful. It forces retreat. Modern day minstrel performances on the evening news provide a source of justified dehumanization, which is needed to maintain the high of intolerance. Doesn’t matter if it’s heroine or hatred, they both affect the pineal gland. I’m thinking this might be the OD part of the process…
