What happened in Paris today is part of an intricate and complicated European problem. which has to do with the worlds most tolerant societies faced with an intolerant culture that is reminiscent of Europe in the middle ages (i.e., Inquisition)... Islam has not had its Reformation yet, and is the phase of development which emphasizes the literal interpretation of the Quran, from the 6th century AD, much like any fundamentalist belief in the WORDS as supposedly written by god... The US is strangely ahead of this cultural curve because of our lamentable history of Religious Fundamentalism, so we Americans do not have the same patina of tolerance.
