What happens if youve been awake for over 40 hours and you lie down on your bed to rest your sore body? The inevitable. I dozed off at around 16:00 but for some reason I woke up just before 19:00 so it was more of a power nap than anything else. Im still exhausted. Not a fun experience but its still an experience. Almost like those pilocarpine eye drops for glaucoma that constrict your eyes pupil (thus limiting light, so you see everything darker than usual, try it at night!) and for some unknown reason it completely blurs your vision for up to 2 hours. That can be pretty funny... Like I said, its not a nice experience but its still an experience if youre adventurous enough. Well, I suppose the nap reset my awake time. Meh. I could have done 48 hours. Sleep is a strange need I dont really see the point of but cant deny its importance. Everything your body does while sleeping, it can do while awake. Including the altered state of consciousness or the three main brain wavelengths, Delta, Theta, and Alpha. They can be achieved easily by some who know how to properly meditate. Some who have practised meditation extensively can actively switch their brain wavelengths without even actively meditating, but in a flash by instant meditation. But thats probably not very easy at all. I for one cant even empty my mind like they tell you to. For others, simple binaural beats does the trick to alter brainwaves. And thats not exactly, completely unnatural is it? Our brains are hard-wired to be able to be influenced to even programmed by just sound. For example, the sound of crickets, chimes, rain, thunder, a cats purring or the rolling waves of the ocean have a calming effect on us because they are sounds of a certain low frequency. White noise, pink noise and brown noise are very simple examples of sound influencing the brains electrical activity. Binaural beats can be very precise programmes, that puts your brain at a very precise wavelength. Different wavelengths may be good for certain things, like destressing? Re-energising? Better learning capacity? Better memory? Or even just falling asleep. Another thing that can alter brain wavelengths surprisingly, is self hypnosis. Altered consciousness. Its not what youd expect like the whole idiotic hypnotising people to act like monkeys as seen on TV. Thats nonsense. Hypnosis simply means an altered state of mind, usually in which you can (not directly, but indirectly) control certain aspects of your perception and change your thought patterns. I tried a simple audio program with voice instructions on how to use hypnosis to get rid of a headache. And... the headache, which was actually a throbbing migraine at the time, was eased a lot with even just the little effort I put into trying and testing self hypnotism. Its extremely simple to do, all to do with visualising the pain and the causes of pain, deep breathing, tensing and relaxing muscles gathering then releasing the pain and tension then visualise your favourite place to be, where you feel most at ease and completely free of worry. Every time you start to feel the slightest pain you will think about this place (you see, this reprograms your brain without even knowing it, it redirects you away from the usual pattern that would cause the pain. And then visualise the constriction of the blood vessels in your head, dissipating with each breath you take, as if youre breathing oxygen directly into it. Its amazing how relaxed your body becomes after a few minutes into such a session. Fascinating stuff.
