What has discouraged me from becoming a ZANU PF member all - TopicsExpress

What has discouraged me from becoming a ZANU PF member all along: Like I have said many times before, I was born and raised in ZANU PF. Until the coming of the MDC in 1999, my parents and grandparents(both father and mothers side) were all staunch card carrying ZANU PF members and we grew up supporting ZANU PF. All we knew was AVM- Amai Vhoterai Mugabe. All we knew was VaMugabe neZANU PF chete. Back then Masvingo was a very solid ZANU PF stronghold during the hey days of Muzenda, Zvongo, Hungwe among others. For me and my family, loss of interest in supporting ZANU PF started in 2000 following the violence which characterised the 2000 Parliamentary Elections- violence which indicated that ZANU PF was either complicity in the violence or incompetent to deal with the violence. Complicity means munhu anenge ari involved mukukonzeresa zvakashata. Incompetence means kutadza kuita basa. That really pushed away many of us but for me the real push away from ZANU PF came in 2002 when ZANU PF Youths militia led by my cousin brother Moris Marimbe Musara who was the ZANU PF Youths Chairman for Ward 14 in Bikita West(Masvingo Province) invaded my school the first day we became form 4s and they forced the whole school to sing whilst they were beating up our headmaster. No action against those youths were taken by local or national ZANU PF structures and again that indicated that ZANU PF was either complicity or incompetent in the political violence. We ended up spending half of the form 4 year teaching ourselves after teachers fled the school. To make matters worse, I was a Junior Councillor and still I was run over as the militia invaded the school with its reign of terror. In Ward 14, the ZANU PF Senior Councillor whon was a teacher at Negovano Primaru School, Ganyani was notorious for organizing militias to beat up people suspected of supporting the MDC. That same year, my mothers father(grandpa) had to flee his home because he was on the list of MDC supporters who were supposed to be beaten up by the ZANU PF militias. My fathers father was also on the list of MDC supporters to be beated up and it has to take paying ZANU PF local leaders to spare him from a thorough beating. Fast forward to 2005 when I started University at the UZ. Again the indiscriminate beating of students by Police deployed by the ZANU PF Government really outraged me and pushed me further away from ZANU PF. Then come 2008, again the violence in which ZANU PF did not take action against the elements involved in the violence further pushed me away from ZANU PF. So, this has been about violence pushing me away from ZANU PF. I dont like it when people are beaten up for supporting another party. If its a crime, the law must be followed not to beat up people and force them to support you. Then other big push factors away from ZANU PF have been ZANU PFs complicity or incompetence in dealing with corruption, looting and crime. All that we hear and see is barking against corruption, looting and crime but real biting of the corrupt looters and criminals involved in corruption and looting of state resources has not happened. Then the problem of arrogance and extemist partisanship. This is a party which wrongly think only ZANU PF has the answers to Zimbabwes problems and that only ZANU PF care about Zimbabwe. Even where mistakes or wrongs have been done, its a taboo in ZANU PF to admit error or wrongdoing. Theirs is a party of angels and saints never capable of sinning. Then the problem of ZANU PF Party and Government policy rigidity, policy ambiguilty and policy contradictions and confusion. What they say on paper they may do something different in reality. Then the problem of wasteful and reckless spending of state funds. You see them running an unnecessary bloated Cabinet and Government. You see them travelling with huge delegations. You see them owning multiple cars, houses and land when the masses are struggling to make ends meet. Then the problem of Government inefficiency and incompetence- Look at how slow and rude service is at most Government departments. Then there is the problem of see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. This is when they want people to just pretend everything is fine and praise the leaders and the party. Myself being an outspoken person, I cant suck it up and be quiet when things are not good for a party or country. Finally, the problem of dishonesty and deceptive politics- this is when lies are told to cover up the party and governments own failures. These are the major problems which have discouraged me from becoming a card carrying member of ZANU PF. There is possibility these problems can be solved. Time will tell.
