What in the world going on here:-SOMALIA: Somali National Army to participate IGAD’s peacekeeping mission in South Sudan Posted on April 18, 2014Somali News inShare Somali National Statement from Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) chairman office indicated that Somali soldiers will include troops from IGAD member countries that are going to be deployed into South Sudan for peace keeping missions. Hailemariam Desalegn the Prime minister of Ethiopia and the chairman of IGAD said that IGAD countries agreed to send troops from Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda IGAD to South Sudan where recently turmoil had been dramatically increasing. The prime minister stated that these troops from mostly IGAD countries will back the government of South Sudan that is facing insecurity challenges in the country and also United Nations bases. Anatalia, Turkish based media house sourcing the office of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desaleg said that IGAD members are planning to send peacekeeping troops in which Somali soldiers will play a vital part. The deployment of Somali soldiers into foreign country for security stabilization sounded very interesting since within Somalia itself tens of thousands of foreign troops from African Union countries are backing the federal government of the country and its warfare against the Al-shabab Islamists who control some parts of Somalia’s south and central regions. Since the fall of the central government of Somalia led by late President Mohamed Siad Barre, Somalia went into a two decades of warlordism and anarchy where the Somali National army who were that time the second most powerful force in Africa were dismantled. Despite the challenges faced by the Somali national army, the army recently made huge victories against Al-shabab militants in Somalia where close to ten key towns had been seized from the militants by the army backed by African Union troops in this year.
