What is 3-D? It is the way we see the world. The human brain has evolved so that it can process the left and right images from the eyes into a single 3-D image. How does it do that? Who knows? But, if that is way we really see the world, then that is the way we should see a photograph, right? There are special built cameras with two lenses to take such photos, but, a camera with a single lens can to it as well. How is can this be done?
