What is Cerebral Palsy? Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term used to describe a group of conditions which affect movement, posture and coordination. This may be seen around the time of birth, or may not become obvious until particular motor developmental stages in early childhood. Cerebral palsy is a wide ranging condition and can affect people in many different ways ranging from mild to profound. Children with mild cerebral palsy may demonstrate only slight awkwardness in movement and may require no special assistance or intervention; whereas other children may benefit from therapy and structured support from various professionals. Approximately one child in 400 has cerebral palsy.
