What is Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)? Ebola virus disease (EVD) aka Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, and extremely deadly in human beings. Ebola virus has a case fatality rate of about 90% during an outbreak, and it often occurs in rural areas in the Central and West African countries close to the tropical rainforests. Ebola virus disease is transmitted to humans from infected wild animals, and spreads from human-to-human. Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are mainly the natural host of the Ebola virus (CDC, 2014). History of Ebola Virus Disease Ebola outbreak appeared for the first time in 1976 at the same time in two African countries; Nzara, Sudan and in Yambuku, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (near Ebola River), which the disease was named after.
