What is a Green Beret? Hes the guy next door, a mans man with the memory of a little boy. He has never gotten over the excitement of guns, camouflage, and dan...ger. Hes a guy like you and me with warts, worries, and unfulfilled dreams, yet he stands taller than most of us. Hes a Green Beret. He puts it all on the line when the his nation calls and the light turns green. A Green Beret is at once the most fortunate, and the least fortunate of men. Hes a man who protects and saves lives because he has seen too much death. Hes a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control on battlefields around the world. Hes responsive to a childs laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again. Hes a man who appreciates the simple pleasures of life...hot coffee, held in numb, unbending fingers...a warm, dry sleeping bag for bones and muscles pushed beyond feeling...the camaraderie of his fellow warriors...the divine peace that comes from a job well done, and the satisfaction of having done it while pursuing freedom and liberty for all. He doesnt wear trendy buttons, hold up protest signs, or shout obscenities in front of a television camera. When he marches it is to honor a fallen comrade. He doesnt preach the brotherhood of man, he lives it, and, if necessary dies for it. This is a Green Beret!
