What is a finished product ? The sum of all techniques used . Cutting straight and square . Finishing a edge . Making holes all in a line straight and evenly spaced . To sew straight with good thread . Repeating operations like you had a machine and you dont Lacing with good tension and good lace . Maybe a couple of dozen single steps to arrive at DONE and no one sees this . At each stage the risk to the project is total slip and its done but not in the way you wanted . Each operation is the single note in a song if you are lucky when they are all strung together its a finished product that will be admired and purchased . Mastering the techniques is key to success no matter how small the technique. Cutting lace and string is the foundation for lots and lots of things . Braiding ,fancy knots ,decorations things without end . Pattern making gives you the ability to make multiples consistently. Lots of things have handles takes some good combinations of techniques to make a clean good looking strap for a handle . Getting things glued together with no glue showing is a technique. All these things take study and research some times there is a guide ,sometimes you are on your own, if there is a problem rest assured there will multiple ways to solve it no one way more correct than another .
