What is a life coach? You many hear me talk about coaching and wonder just what is coaching. It’s easier to explain by first telling you what coaching is NOT. Coaches are not counselors, pastors, friends, parents, miracle workers, job services, or gurus. Coaches do not deal with the past, and they are not a band-aid to fix old wounds. If you are dealing with those issues, it is best to see a therapist, doctor, or your pastor for guidance. Coaches ARE visionaries, conversationalists, purpose partners, collaborators, challengers, encouragers, and great question askers. Coaches help you discover what it is you want in life and help you design a road map to get there. Coaches deal with the present and help you discover what it would take to become the best person possible today, in order for you to succeed in the future. What would you expect from a life coach? If you were to hire a coach, the coach would most likely do an assessment or maybe even several assessments to establish where you are in life and where you want to go. Coaches ask lot of questions. They will sometimes do activities or assign homework in order to help you grow and stretch. The answers you are looking for are often right inside you. You just need someone to come along beside you and help extract those answers. Once you have the answers, the coach will help you put some plans in place to achieve your goals. Who can a life coach help? To be honest, anyone can benefit from a coach! Coaches can help people through dating, divorce, engagements, parenting, and having a successful blended family. There are coaches for business leaders, entrepreneurs, students, empty nesters, the currently unemployed, and mid-life career changers. Coaches can help you set weight loss goals, establish work out plans, and discover what foods work best for you body. Coaches can support you with stress management and living with chronic illness strategies. Athletes, actors, authors, and public speakers use life coaches. If you have a challenge, I can almost guarantee you, there is a coach out there that can help. Note: The descriptions above are derived from my studies at Light University.
