What is happening in Martin Place is terrifying. It is sparking all sorts of vitriol online against all Muslims. The extremists involved in this act are absolutely to be condemned. However, I would like to point out that in the last 40 years or so we have had a relatively small number of siege/hostage incidents and only one other that I could find involved a Muslim. In 1972 the Ansett Airlines flight 232 hijacking. Thats it. Otherwise : 1987 Hoddle St 1987 Queen St 1990 Surrey Hills 1991 Strathgordon 1992 Central Coast 1993 Jolimont Centre 1996 Port Arthur 2002 Monash University 2011 Hectorville All of these other incidents were perpetrated by white Australians except for Jolimont (Im unsure of Felipe Ruizdiazs background), Monash (a student from Hong Kong) and Queen St (a Croatian/Italian Catholic). Just saying. Please dont fall for the terrorist plan for notoriety or the medias to manipulate hate.
