What is is like to be a doctor in immidgration detention centres? - TopicsExpress

What is is like to be a doctor in immidgration detention centres? (The Guardian today). My response: --------------------- Yet more compelling evidence of the brutality and inhumanity that this government (and previous ones) have foisted on asylum seekers. To do this, they have lied to you. The lying has been blatant and designed to harden your hearts. Sadly, you have fallen for it. These people are like you and me. Human beings, but in their case they have fled unimaginable cruelty else they would not have risked life and limb on dodgy vessels. If you accept the slogans which include words like illegal, terrorist, people smugglers, terrorists etc., I ask you to consider a couple of things: 1. Do you like being made a fool of? Being conned? Rhetorical of course, I know I dont: who does? Read some of the factual information about asylum seekers and ask yourself could my government (current and past) have lied to me? Is it possible? If you say no, then you have made yourself a willing target for a con game. If you say yes, it is possible, then weigh the evidence, putting aside the slogans you have had rammed down your throat. Here are a few things to consider: * aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/BN/2012-2013/AsylumFacts * refugeecouncil.org.au/f/myth-long.php * Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country. en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Hermann_Göring 2. You are a human being, otherwise you wouldnt be reading this. Think what it would be like to be back in the worst situation you have ever been in. Or worse! Imagine you have worked out that you face death unless you flee. Here is but one article that captures how this affected people who did flee. What would you have done? Can you honestly say that you would have stayed and tried to change things? * nytimes/2013/11/17/magazine/the-impossible-refugee-boat-lift-to-christmas-island.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 Please, before you reply repeating cruel and meaningless slogans, read the information above and think about how it paints an entirely different picture than the lies that those who govern us have told us.
