What is it about BJP PMs that causes Nawaz Sharif to come to grief !? It happened in 1999 with Vajpayee and the Kargil fiasco. This time round Nawaz again overreached himself by pursuing his blood vendetta against Musharraf in the grand old Pakistani tradition, in the process setting alarm bells ringing in GHQ Rawalpindi. The cleric and the cricketer, despite their limited public support, surely got a boost by the Armys clandestine encouragement with a motive to destabilise and defang Sharif , who should have known better than to step on the toes of the Army by seeking to nail Musharraf with treason charges. The Judiciary is the other heavyweight gorilla in the room with its penchant for admitting dubious law suits featuring murder charges against actions arising from exercising the sovereign functions of the govt. Seeing the murky events unfold, im filled with a sense of admiration for Zardari and his adroit manouevreings in the snake pit of Pakistani politics, which enabled him to be the first civilian to complete his full elected term in office while at the same time successfully keeping the Army and the biased judiciary at bay.
