What is left out... just watched the noon news which included a segment concerning the virtual colonoscopy which did include some accurate information.... however and I grant that time allowed was not sufficient to adequately cover this subject... there are a few missing bits of information I believe you need to know IF you are considering this medical examination. I took this virtual examination because I did have prostate cancer and received 41 radiation treatments for this cancer which did cure my cancer. Cancer runs in my family and this virtual colonoscopy is said to be the gold standard for detecting cancer beyond what can be discovered with the routine colonoscopy. The first thing you need to know is that you must be awake while taking this virtual colonoscopy and you could and especially if you have had radiation treatment for the prostate which damaged the colon suffer during this examination with substantial bleeding. Some doctors do not recommend the virtual colonoscopy for patients who have had some radiation treatments. My doctor allowed me to have this examination. I did suffer and there was substantial bleeding. During the regular colonoscopy which is more expensive etc the patient is medicated and the patient is out with no pain while the procedure is done and unaware of the treatment which is over when the patient wakes up. The regular colonoscopy does require the patient to have some one with him/her during and after this treatment.
