What is overtraining? Does it exist? According to ACSMs journal, Overtraining or over reaching is responsible for impaired performance and increase fatigue both in training and daily life. -Kinucan, Paige; Kravitz, Len Ph.D Training to a point where you experience complete exhaustion physically and mentally having endocrinological disruption (hormones) and/or feel tired, weak and fatigue all the time where your performance and daily routine suffer NOT training a muscle so much that is becomes catabolic (breaks down) and does not grow. Theres no scientific study for that in non-endurance athletes, those studies where only conducted on ENDURANCE athletes. Overtraining is not always a negative thing. Yes, you will feel fatigue and your workouts will suffer but once you switch from a high volume to a low volume workout plan (which you should, periodically) your progress will be seen. Short term cortisol increases (found in resistance training) were more associated with lean body mass than test and IGF1. Crazy I know :) Last thing, volume and frequency is associated with hypertrophy more so than over-load. In short, just work your tail off, listen to your body, learn to periodically change your programs, dont worry about cortisol, your body is an adaptable machine (IT WILL ADAPT), stay on top of your nutrition and supplements.
