What is the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Fast - TopicsExpress

What is the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Fast Track? Often called NAFTA 2.0, the TPP is a classified free trade agreement being negotiated with the help of nearly 600 corporate advisors (including Walmart, Chevron, Halliburton, Monsanto, and more). Threatening everything from worker rights and access to medicine to the environment and internet freedom, the deal even creates a trade tribunal in which corporations can file suit against local, state, and national policies for interfering with their current or projected future profits. Trade Promotion Authority, or Fast Track, is a law that would give the President the power to negotiate and sign massive trade agreements such as the TPP with minimal congressional oversight. Under Fast Track, Congress has only a short period of time to review thousands of pages of legal language, is subject to restricted debate, and loses its right to make amendments to the text. Leaders in Congress are hoping to introduce a Fast Track bill in a matter of weeks, but we defeated the version of the legislation that came out last year -- and we know we can do it again.
