What is the purpose of prayer? Do you believe in prayer? Then why do we pray? What is the purpose of prayer? If you pray or when you pray what do you expect? Do you expect anything? I am certainly not suggesting we should not pray, but as a faith based counselor I have come to realize that many people (yes, Christians included) do not understand about prayer and praying. Often times the only time we pray is when we are trying to get out of a difficult, painful, or challenging circumstance(s). We are so focused on being delivered from or changing the circumstance that we fail to allow for change within us. We fail to allow for the growth that takes place with change. Change is painful, growth is painful. We fail to learn the lesson the circumstance may have ushered in. We pray for God to change our circumstance, but we never pray for God to change us. So what is the purpose of prayer?
