What is your opinion of the fusion of Kizomba with other types of dance such as the tango, salsa and classic dance, or in other words, contemporary dance? There is a positive side to fusions, as they provide the dance with more characteristics from an artistic viewpoint, but we need to know how to do it, particularly in relation to the fusion of steps. We cannot flee from the traditional roots of the dance to ensure it doesn´t lose its originality as a basic art. Nowadays, when we watch young people perform the “samba show”, we notice the basis of traditional semba, danced in the 1950s and 1960s. The new style, from the last 10 years, features certain ingredients from the Cuban rumba, tango and milonga, rhythms which arose in slave communities.
