What it means to play in surround sound, as I will be doing all throughout the week in the Disorient Dome: To play music that has been MIXED in that multichannel format, in other words not merely stereo (only 2 speakers). Some of the sources I am using will be quadraphonic (4.0) as well as traditional (5.1) and more exotic formats such as 7.1. In other words and for all of the above, totally different sounds come out of each of the seven stacks of speakers, which creates a three-dimensional effect you hear best by standing in the middle of the room.
