What keeps a man in his former state? Even when he knows hes been remade, the wretched heart clings hard to that which is familiar. An abusive relationship, negative thinking, drug use are all indicative of the human condition--a predisposition to addiction. As creatures of habit, we consciously or subconsciously attempt to recreate an emotional response that keeps us in a climate we are comfortable in. Whatever the addiction is it supports a habitat our flesh craves. The Lord carries the key to liberate us from the dead man lost in his dead ways but it is a 180 degree we must make to follow Christ out of this wretched state. It is a fear of the unknown, our propensity to avoid change that will be the greatest obstacle hindering us from taking that step of faith.
