Spirit of reconciliation slowly taking root in PF – YALI The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) says it has taken note of how slowly the spirit of reconciliation is taking root within the ranks and file of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF). YALI is hoping that the spirit of reconciliation will also move fast in the MMD in order that the former ruling party goes contests the 2015 presidential election as a united party. YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza has told QFM News in a telephone interview that his organization still thinks that the ruling PF have however not adequately dealt with the root cause of the divisions that have marred the intra party wrangles in the PF. Mr. Mwanza says the question that is in the minds of the people is whether all factions in the PF have accepted the current leadership under Justice and Defense Minister Edgar Lungu irrespective of the legal pronouncements by the courts. Mr. Mwanza says his organization believes that the ruling PF still needs to sit down and come up with a political solution to its problems. He has called on two camps that have emerged in the ruling party ahead of the forthcoming presidential election have to realize that only one person can lead the party at one particular time. And on public debates that has arisen on whether Mr. Lungu or Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa would lose their Parliamentary seats should they decide to contest for the highest office of the land, Mr. Mwanza says YALI is of the view that neither of the two are under any mandate to vacate from their seats if they choose to contest the Presidency. He says the Constitution is very clear, on Article 71(2) (b) where it states that Members of Parliament who contest the Presidency can only vacate from their seats once they assume the office of the President.
