What on Earth is that? A clear Ambassador bass drum batter head? Has Ryno gone mad? Perhaps, but my madness predates this latest buffoonery. But why, Ryno? Why would you put a single-ply head with no rings or foam or anything else on your bass drum? Well, the reason is because I use other methods to muffle my bass drum. I have a small bed sheet in my bass drum that I adjust for more or less muffling as I feel necessary. Ive been using Powerstroke 3s forever but have recently been contemplating why I need a pre-muffled head since I am using the bed sheet. Seems like overkill, plus Im in the mood for as many sonic options as possible lately. Enter the clear Amby batter. Remos most open, resonant head. Now my bass drum can go from tympani-like resonance to a standard sounding pop/rock bass drum sound, depending on the muffling techniques I choose to (or not to) employ. Im all about options these days.
