The Middle Township Police Department had to respond to the Animal Welfare Society in Dias Creek on a report that a dog have been shot with BBs. This was while the dog was locked in a cage and couldn’t get away. The dog was taken to a vet and x-rays showed the dog had been shot about 70 times. On Oct. 16, Detective Clint Stocker of the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit arrested 29 year old Nicholas F. Spurrier of Dias Creek. Spurrier was charged with animal cruelty, a fourth degree crime, and criminal mischief, a third degree crime. The dog survived but the veterinarian was not able to remove all of the BBs. “This was a heinous act committed on this dog. We had to look at the X-rays with disgust, and we knew the dog suffered over a period of time,” said Capt. John Edwards. “My detectives did a fantastic job in closing the case with an arrest.” Spurrier was charged on a summons and released.
