What started out as a bit of fun has led to some real insights - TopicsExpress

What started out as a bit of fun has led to some real insights into what makes Southpaws such a special place. We set up a GoPro camera in our Treatment Room to take photos every 30 seconds on a typical (albeit a bit slow) day at Southpaws. Watching the video, a few things become apparent. The most obvious is the number of people around. We could probably get away with about half the number of surgeons and nurses. Having those extra people is part of what makes Southpaws unique. Surgeons always have time to speak with clients and vets before, during and after treatment. Nurses have time to perform prescribed treatments including administration of pain relief, toileting and general patient cuddling. Surgeons always have assistants in surgery and there is always at least one nurse monitoring the anaesthetic. Nurses have time to document surgeries with photographs which have become such an integral part of our communications with referring vets. Humour, which is one of our core values, also comes through in this video. We strongly believe that people who are able to have a laugh at work are more likely to be empathetic with clients and patients. Please take a minute (or 8) to watch this video. It gives some insights to the essence of what makes Southpaws such a special place.
