What to Expect on Your Sugar Detox A sugar detox will affect everyone differently. My first detox was much harder than when I detox now. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel awesome right away. Your blood sugar is likely used to a constant or at least steady stream of sugars and refined carbohydrates. It may take a few days or more to adjust, but your body will be finding balance! You may experience a detox effect. When you cut out foods that have been a burden to your body, it is freed up to deal with some things it had been putting off before. Experiencing skin issues or headaches is not uncommon. These will pass! As your body gets back on track, things will begin to work more smoothly. You may be changing your diet somewhat drastically during this time. This is not a bad thing, but again it may take some time to work out the kinks. And when we take something out, we usually replace it with something else, right? You may be replacing the sugar and refined carbs with something else that your body doesn’t like or can’t handle in such large amounts. Maybe you switched your morning cereal to eggs or are eating more broccoli. Maybe those eggs or broccoli don’t agree with you. You may get stomach upset or your skin might break out. Notice these things and try experimenting. If you think that you’ve figured out the culprit, cut it out and see if things improve. Post your experiences on the group! There is a good chance that someone else is having a similar issue. If you just don’t feel comfortable posting about your poop related or other personal issues, feel free to send me a message and we can try to figure things out privately Don’t give up! Possible symptoms: Hunger- Eat! This is not a diet. Make sure to get plenty of veggies, protein, and fat to stay satisfied. Keep snacks on hand as you adjust to this way of eating. Cravings- Are they due to physical or emotional hunger? You may need to find some new healthy ways to deal with stress or sadness. Try talking to a friend or your detox buddy, praying, or doing something that you enjoy. Headache, brain fog, nausea, sleep issues, weak, shaky, irritable- These may be signs of low blood sugar. Have a healthy snack or meal with good protein and fats. Consider blood sugar supporting supplements like cinnamon (sprinkle on food or drinks), chromium, B vitamins, or gymnema. Skin irritation/breakouts, headache, mild digestive problems- You may be going through a healing reaction. If not severe try to ride these things out for a few days. When in doubt, ask! Skin irritation/breakouts, headache, diarrhea, stomach cramps, mood issues- This may be a reaction to a food that you are not used to eating so much of. You may need do a bit of detective work to figure out what the problem is. Experiment by cutting things out that are suspect. Feel free to contact me for more help. Bored- You may feel like you are stuck eating the same old stuff day after day. Check out the Resources in the “Files” section in the group or post that you need some inspiration. More energy, better sleep, good mood, hopeful- Let us know! Post on the group to encourage others and keep up the good work!
