What to do if you need to fly from city A to city B, but discover that there are no direct flights and all connections have several hours of waiting time in the airport? Well, you can just follow your itinerary or you can spontaneously decide to take a direct flight to city C instead, spend a night there, go to the museums during the day and next evening take a direct flight to city B. Sounds good, doesn’t it? That’s exactly what we did, but this is just a beginning… After spending a great day in city C, you look at your tickets to city B and somehow do not feel like going to the airport. What do you do? You spontaneously decide not to go to city B (even though it is your home) and stay in city C instead. In one day, you find and furnish an apartment and… well… just stay in city C for the time being or indefinitely. Good news: I have not been in city C for almost 2 years, and it feels surreal and wonderful to be back. Bad news: I was packed for 4 sunny days in California with just a small carry-on bag and ended up in the snow-covered freezing terrain instead. In a strange way, this all reminds me of my very first “visit” to NYC, when, instead of staying there for 3 days and then returning to the Soviet Union, I spontaneously decided to stay and make it my home. Sometimes the best decisions in life happen spontaneously, and I love having the freedom to follow my intuition wherever it takes me.
