What was Paul’s “thorn in the flesh?” Did Paul get answer to his prayers? How did this answer change Paul’s perspective regarding his weakness? How can we apply Paul’s experience to our experience as 21st century believers? Paul’s “thorn in the flesh” has been just that to many theologians and ministers through the years. It is unfortunate that so many erroneous theories about it have been bought into by sincere believers. When we handle the Word of God, we must be diligent not to inject our own opinions as to its meaning. One of the ways we come to a clear understanding of Scripture interpretation is to allow the Word to speak for itself. In other words, we must give consideration to the meaning of words used in a particular passage to gain a clearer understanding of what is being said. Also, we must understand what is said prior to and after a particular verse (the context). (2 Corinthians 12:7-12)
