What we Believe as a Group! https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=10152358421356984&set=gm.946177722076764&type=1 FoSL&L Philosophy The motivation values which form the driving force to our passion for a transformed Africa and a peaceful global environment shall constitute our FOSL&L Philosophy: We are Dedicated to make poor people live better lives before they die , as exemplified by our commitment to the critical issues of society and our uncompromising work ethic. Our FOSL&L is a Struggle for justice Integrity and inclusion, as exemplified by our attention to the highest ethical standards in all domains, and our commitment to being a community which welcomes talented minds from diverse backgrounds and challenges them individually and collectively to achieve their best We believe in and practise Testing everything against experience! We know that poor people are the true experts on the nature of poverty, and our work is shaped by their voices and concerns. In a spirit of humility, we try to learn from our own mistakes and from the experience of those we work alongside, to improve the impact of our work. We know that lasting solutions can never be imposed on communities from the outside. We believe that Poverty is a condition created by an unjust society, denying people access to, and control over, the resources they need to live a full life. So we take the side of poor and marginalised people as they struggle to realise their civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. We believe in the just and sustainable use of FOSL&L and its resources, so that the greed of one generation will not create poverty for the next. We have a duty to speak out and act with conviction to challenge and change the systems that create poverty! Friends of Sierra Leone and Liberia always remains independent of governments and other powerful institutions. We work to educate and mobilise people from all kinds of backgrounds to build national consensus and movements which can positively change the course of the history of the 2 countries. We believe in and practise Shared responsibility - Responsibility for managing community economic and social development, as well as threats to peace and security, must be shared among the civil institutions of the world and should be exercised multilaterally. As the most universal and representative organization in the Sierra Leone and Liberia, the FoSL&L must play the central role. We believe in and practise Entrepreneurship, as exemplified by openness to new ideas, prudent use of resources, and readiness to act. We believe in and practise Depth driving breadth, as exemplified by our issue‐driven research, our context‐based general education initiatives, and our focus on problem solving and creative production at all levels. We believe in and practise Collaboration, as exemplified by our inter-disciplinarity, our external partnerships, and our capacity to create new fields of inquiry. We believe in and practise Measuring excellence by impact, as exemplified by our focus on issues critical to regional development, national interest, and global welfare.
