What would a Cavadee or Murugan festival, in Mauritius, be without - TopicsExpress

What would a Cavadee or Murugan festival, in Mauritius, be without the age old chants we are so accustomed to recite, listen or simply shout Haro Hara at the end of each stanza? These chants, such as the Avinasipaatu (Vatrada Poygei), Arumugaswami Viruttam (Arumugamum Pannirandum) etc...are treasures our ancestors have left for us. This video, shows an old Tata, reciting the chants the traditional old school way, with intonations fit to direct our minds directly to divine realms. The way it is recited creates trance-like states and prepare us to keep our minds on Lord Muruga throughout the Cavadee. People of this generation are getting fewer by the day and it is imperative to preserve these traditions so as to keep the charm of the Cavadee alive.
