What would it take to prove the existence of God? Nature can’t prove it – Adam himself couldn’t prove it because nature was already in existence when he arrived. The birth of a child can’t prove it to evolutionists. Life itself hasn’t proven to all men that God is behind the breath they take. According to some, then, there is no firm foundation in nature, none in the birth of a child or in life itself. None of these standing alone had proven God existed and was hardly likely the three standing together could. Nothing x nothing x nothing = nothing. So it seems the existence of God can’t be demonstrated by that which He created. The purpose of a demonstration is to show the usefulness of a thing. The mid idiom of demonstration is Essence and it can be shown in two ways. One way is through the Cause and is called a priori knowledge. This argues from what is prior and absolute – undeniable truth – All husbands are married, all men are males and all women are female. We know the statements are true because we understand the meanings of the words it contains. The second way is through the Effect and is called a posteriori. This is to argue from what is prior and relatively known only to us – My Chevy is red, my house is brick, my horse is gray. Posteriori knowledge requires investigating and can only be obtained through proof. The Effect is the outward sign that has power to bring about results. Electricity is the Cause behind the Effective overhead light. Underground water pipes are the Cause of water flowing from the faucets. I am the Cause of the very words appearing on the pages of this book. When the Effect of the overhead light, the water streaming, the book, is better known to us than its Cause, from that Effect we can proceed to the knowledge of the Cause. If the Effect exists, the Cause must pre-exist. Hence the existence of God – if it is not self-evident to some – should be able to be demonstrated from Effects which are known to us.
