What you want to achieve from your training should always be a key starting point, training to achieve your goals is a journey which will never follow a straight road. Along the road you will have to decide at times whether you train or dont train, when to push and when not too push, when you need to recover more (but only if you can override the desire to train less) as well as listening to what your body is telling you. In my experience not a great deal of thought goes into the above but ownership of how & why you train should be a key philosophy, Why? If you jump into training and go for it without thinking about how the training you are doing is impacting on your body then do not be surprised if your body lets you know. Sometimes the results of your endeavours to reach what you may consider peak fitness are likely to come to an abrupt halt!!
