Whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger. People are always saying this quote from Neitzsche trying to inspire people to overcome tragedy and loss. Sorry, but its just dumb. Im going to park this profound misunderstanding once and for all. That this statement is both wrong headed and blantantly untrue, is evidenced by the millions of people who HAVE been beaten and broken by loss and tragedy, never to recover their self belief or joie de vivre. What IS true and wise and what Nietzsche actually meant was Whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger...if you decide that it will. It is in your decision, your choice, as to how you respond to loss or tragedy, that your power to transform loss and tragedy into growth and contribution lies. Dont get it twisted.
