Whats on my mind?? Donavan. My Hanoverian Stallion. Heart horse ( although I have had several and simultaneously too!) He will be 30 in March. Admittedly , I have been on my toes for over 5 years thinking, prepare yourself he could be gone any time. )This is what we all do with our older guys. Donavan has Cushings now, but under control. He has to eat lo carb food and alfalfa mix hay, less time on any grass. He has all of his teeth but one, ..yet they are getting worn.. He has heart murmur , but very mild, hardly notice.. He still eats very well, and often can passage, piaffe and trot, and canter, and kick up his heels as if he were 15 again. OUr routine in the AM is he takes a syringe with some meds in it, then a syringe with 15 cc Immunall, a natural immune booster I have had success with for him, and if he is having a bit of ouchiness due to an off again, on again, mild laminitis.. then he also needs a gram of bute sometimes. DONAVAN DOES NOT LIKE SYRINGES COMING TO HIM. HE IS A WOOSE. He will trot away, spin, or throw his head up in the air.He will come at me like I will play tag with you.. We must hide it, and sneak up on him and only a couple of us can get it all in his mouth without losing some! So Today was ALL OF THE ABOVE..PLUS , OMG, WORMER!! I was sad a few days ago since he had a bout of the sore toes..just up front, so we put the treatment into gear, soaking some things, and the bute.. and I started Immunall more often than his usual 2x week. He was immediately better . Today was also WORMER DAY!! So here is the tail end of a round o Donavan playing games with me because he had had enough syringes of stuff. I did get it in him. Note, since it rained and softened the ground we let him out to move around, but he is off grass for a few days and only gets an hour a day.. which , could change.
