Whats the deal with the awning in front of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse? When you visit the lighthouse this spring, things may look a little different. In preparation for a fresh coat of paint, a small, protective covering over the entrance to the lighthouse has been constructed. This temporary structure will continue to allow visitation to the lighthouse and protect visitors from the wet paint. For those wondering, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is painted every 5 to 7 years.
