"Whatu ngarongaro he tangata, toitu he whenua Man disappears but the land remains" Kia ora koutou friends and friends i have yet to meet. if you are supportive of my bid to be elected to the Whakatane District Council please share this post across your networks . Voting papers are out.!!!! After attending the Mayoral Forum tonight I believe it is imperative that other views need to be heard on the council.I believe have a roll to play in bringing other ideas for prosperity development and community well being to the council table. . Ideas that have already been adopted by forward thinking councils in Aotearoa Ideas from people in this community., Ideas and green technology to deal with waste etc. I am passionate about working towards a sustainable future, where we meet our needs for a healthy, prosperous and culturally rich community while protecting the environment for future generations. My key priorities are: Work inclusively with the Community towards a long term vision of Whakatāne. Encourage economic development and growth. Prioritise developing a reliable supply of clean water and reduce negative impacts on waterways. Ensure all known contaminated sites in the District are identified, mapped, and have active management plans. Alternative means of transport such as walking, cycling and public transport are actively enabled.I also believe I have a roll in challenging the notion that the only way the council can pay off debt and be financially viable is to sell off land for inappropriate developments in inappropriate places. just heard on the news that low lying housing areas in Auckland and coastal housing in Coromandel are being evacuated because of extreme tidal surges and flooding associated with a weather bomb hitting the area. Another reason why we must not build on Piripai, Opihi Whanaungakore Shaw Road Huna Road, and Coastal Ohope.
