When I am prepping for a show, I mostly eat differently to my family. My food looks different and many many times I even eat at a different times to their meal times. When my beautiful, strong powerful little girl wants to know why, I have to tread very lightly when I respond. This is such a sensitive issue. I usually focus on how the way I eat during competition helps me to reveal my muscle and strength that I have worked so hard for in the gym. I dont, however make fat the villain or a dirty word because it is important for her to understand that fat is just a part of a healthy body composition, just as much as muscle and skin tissue are. I tell her that I choose to not eat my favourite treats during prep because I want to feel at my most healthy, muscular and fit when standing on stage and that eating yummy sweets etc just dont support my goals at that time. She knows by now that we will be eating a yummy bowl of frozen yogurt together again in no time. Do I always get this right? Absolutely not!!! There are times when I let my disappointment in my physique show and there are times when I blow it and totally say the wrong thing.... I try my best to recover though.
