When I arrived in the US from Egypt more than two decades ago, I - TopicsExpress

When I arrived in the US from Egypt more than two decades ago, I was surprised by the ethnic classification. I had never experienced that before in Egypt. It was a homogeneous society despite its diversity from North to South, East to Delta to West, Muslim to Christian. It was not utopia but it was cohesive. Now move forward to2013 particularly after the coup/ My shock is increasing by the day. Humanity has taken a back seat or has dropped all together. Masses are being killed by live bullets and burnt alive. Thousands are injured and detained. Yet this is not the peak of my shock. What blows my mind away is those people calling for cleansing of a large sect of the society. They witness the horror and are thirsty for more. Without an iota of mercy or shame, they celebrate the murderers from the criminal police force, military and their street thugs. Stories of beheading, women and children killed, and numerous people tortured as reported by international media sources, and they give credence only to the ever-corrupt Egyptian media. What is happening to the fabric of the Egyptian society takes it back to the time of the Pharaoh of Egypt and his cronies with the Israelites. As narrated in the Quran the vicious pharaoh pit people against each other, was excessively brutal, and killed the young children and violated the women. It is narrated that some people followed the pharaoh and obeyed him supporting his actions. Deep hatred now divides Egyptians and violence is only on the rise! Pray for Egypt! Pray for my once-beautiful country of birth...
