When I began this book, I felt that no one had properly shown - TopicsExpress

When I began this book, I felt that no one had properly shown Henry Clay the person: they focused on Clay the Statesman, Clay the Great Compromiser, the bravado-ed Speaker of the House , or Clay the lawyer. No one took a step back and saw the whole man. I approached the book as if I were interviewing him and tried to show his many talents, but also as a husband and as a father. This new review of my book seems to say I succeeded. (review dated September 8, 2014) What more could you ask from a biography than for it to spark your imagination and drive you to find out more information about the subject matter? This is just what happened to me when I read Henry Clay: Compromise and Ambition. Mr. Hensley has put an enormous amount of research into this project, utilizing not only every other written biography on Henry Clay, but also meticulously searching through primary sources and even becoming a docent at Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate. This access to information has allowed Mr. Hensley to put an unique spin on the subject of Henry Clay, and in this work, Hensley presents an unprecedented look into Clay’s life, not just as a politician, but as a human being. Anyone interested in Clay or early American politics should pick up a copy of this publication.
