When I did my Structural draughting and Civil Engineering many many years ago - We had the latest technology .... draughting tables,set squares,compass and dividers, logarithm tables, sohcahtoa,scale rules,various draughting ink pens,coloured pencils and we used our brains to design all aspects of design construction,as calculators were coming in ( we were expected NOT to use them )we showed and proved moments and their resulting bending moments etc ...... from motorway bridges and flyovers in reinforced concrete, factories in steel and all forms of heavy construction in timber. I had always aspired to become an Architect and was doing the entrance coursework in evening classes, whilst doing my Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery alongside.. but a life changing event put paid to that!!!!!!! Todays technology is amazing and does save time .... but anyone can design now by pushing a few buttons, as all the thinking is done for them...Ha welcome to the real world.
