When I first moved to Vegas way back in 1980, everything was alien. It was like nothing Id ever experienced and I was really a stranger in a strange town. I walked around the only punk rocker at UNLV, or so i thought, for weeks. All 12 hour DMs, leather jacker, bad attitude in 100 degree weather......I was the freaky guy that everyone steered clear of. The food was an epiphany as well. My culinary taste was really limited and suddenly i was surrounded by all these amazing...what i thought were amazing burger, fast food, Italian this, Asian that restaurants. I was a sponge and couldnt get enough of it. Boozing was a different story. At a tender 17, the ludicrous US drinking laws meant, till i got a fake ID, I couldnt get into any bars.....well not legally anyhow. At the time, this little number was a Vegas bar food staple and a brief discussion with Mrs Punk last week ignited the memory and here it is. shallow fried courgettes with home made bread crumbs and a Jalapeno cheese sauce......food and taste, like smell can transport you, take you back to a time of innocence and experience that Id long forgotten. Ive plenty on today but Las Vegas 1980 will be in my head space. A welcome companion.....TPPxx
