When I first saw posts about the ice bucket challenge, I was skeptical about whether or not a bunch of people dumping ice on their heads was really a viable method for positive change. But this trend has turned into something so much more than just social media clicktivism, and has made a profound and measurable difference in spreading awareness and promoting research for ALS (better known as Lou Gehrigs disease), including a 1,000% spike in donations. Millions of dollars have been raised in the past few weeks, compared to the 25,000 raised in the same period of time last year. Please visit alsa.org if you would like to donate, or simply learn more about this disease and the social media movement currently drawing so much attention to it. Strike out ALS! Huge shout-out to Kris Labovitch for nominating me
