When I first took office, I started opening court with the Pledge - TopicsExpress

When I first took office, I started opening court with the Pledge of Allegiance. On September 11, 2001, after seeing the events at the World Trade Center, I added a prayer or moment of silence to remember those who had lost their lives in the attacks, particularly the heroes of Flight 93 and those who voluntarily went into the burning buildings. I have continued opening court with the Pledge and a moment of silence, primarily to remember our soldiers, police officers, and fireman who risk their lives everyday, as well as our veterans. In September of each year, I open court specifically remembering those of the September 11th attacks. Below is a note I received from an attorney in 2006: "I wanted to tell you again how much I enjoyed the way you opened court with the Pledge of Allegiance. It does a good job of reminding all the participants in the process that we are present not just to handle cases, but also to do justice in the real sense of the word to the extent we can." I pray every American takes a moment out of their day to remember those who lost their lives and pay tribute to those who keep us free.
