When I had a stroke two years ago, one of the surprising things - TopicsExpress

When I had a stroke two years ago, one of the surprising things was how quickly the muscles in my right arm "atrophied" from disuse. My forearm and biceps, within weeks, became "flabby" and hung loosely like those of a little old lady. It took concentrated, repetitive effort to EXERCISE them and make them stronger. And so, I think it is with our brain. Often when we have a "mental" stroke - a personal loss, great tragedy or misfortune of some kind - our minds shrink and become flabby and unresponsive. We comfort ourselves in front of the TV or computer as "spectators" - not participants. Our minds never get off the comfortable couch of our memories and recollections. That cannot be, if we are to ever recover. We MUST "exercise". I write each day my FaceBook friends - not for you - but, for ME. :-
