When I heard that Michigan had changed the shotgun zone to a limited zone, meaning we can use straight walled cartridges of a certain size I knew that I was going to use a gun that I inherited from my father. It is a marlin .357 mag lever action. It is a sweet little gun that can do the job quite nicely. Shooting this deer with another one of dads old guns means more to me than anything. I said a little prayer this morning that he would put a buck in front of me and he did. After the shot I gave thanks to both the lord above and my father, shed a tear or two and then smiled as a doe stepped out asking for the same fate. I ended my Michigan season with a double. So with both deer at the processor I can concentrate on work and let the kids Trent Cook and Megan Edlin fill the rest of the freezer. To say that I miss my dad a lot is an understatement. You live on in the hunting heritage that you have passed on to us kids.
