When I saw Mark perform at the Pygmalion Festival a month or two ago, he left us with a choice for his last song of the night- Ceiling Gazing or I Cant Live Without My Mothers Love. After a many attendees yelped for Ceiling Gazing, Mark shrugged back with a disappointing look. He responded, You dont want to hear the song about my Mom? with a bit of playful attitude and gave the audience a nice laugh. That funny and sassy response prompted me to revisit the song, and, now, it stands as one of the most moving songs on Benji. I love my Mom with every ounce of my being, and if she were stripped from my life, I think I would feel exactly like Mark does. He communicates his feelings like no other music writer I admire- it blows me away every time.
